Samsunspor reacts to referee performance
Süper Lig side Samsunspor has expressed its reaction to the referee's officiating following their 0-0 draw away against Beşiktaş.
Samsunspor Club expressed its reaction to referee Kadir Sağlam following the match against Beşiktaş, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
In a statement released by the red-and-white club, it was stated that the referee's decisions during the Beşiktaş match significantly disrupted the balance of the contest.
The statement, which alleged that the referee delivered a poor performance, read: "In our Süper Lig match against Beşiktaş, unfortunately, a very poor refereeing performance was displayed. Especially during the critical moments of the match, he used all his discretionary powers in favor of our opponent. The referee significantly disrupted the balance of the match.
"IT HAS NEGATIVELY AFFECTED OUR STRUGGLE"
Particularly in the 64th minute of the match, in a situation where even the foul itself was debatable, our player Rick Van Drongelen was unfairly sent off by the match referee with a second yellow card. This decision directly affected the outcome of the match and negatively impacted our struggle on the pitch. The fact that referee performances have reached such poor levels has overshadowed the beautiful and effective football our players displayed on the field. This situation harms the development of Turkish football and undermines trust in the sense of justice in football," the statement said.
"IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ALWAYS TAKE A STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT"
The statement, which called for referees to provide fairer officiating, included the following views:
"We hope that there is no connection between these erroneous decisions and our position in the league table. While we, as a club, support the decisions taken by the Turkish Football Federation regarding referees for the advancement of Turkish football, we also believe that our referees must adopt a more careful and fair attitude when exercising their discretionary powers.
It is essential to take a stand not for the powerful, but always for what is right. With our call for fair, equal, and clean football; we extend our endless gratitude to our players and technical staff, who never take a step back in the struggle and put their hearts into the crest featuring Atatürk, and also to our great Samsunspor fans who never leave us alone under any circumstances."
