Scandalous banner at the Partizan-Fenerbahçe match!
Before the Partizan–Fenerbahçe match in the 12th week of the EuroLeague, Serbian fans unfurled a provocative banner in the stands depicting Ottoman Sultan Murad I and Miloš Obilić. Anti-Turkish chants also continued for a long time in the stands before the match began.
Fenerbahçe Beko was a guest of Partizan in Belgrade for the 12th week of the EuroLeague. The yellow-navy team managed to defeat the Serbian side 99-87 in the challenging away game.
Before the match, however, Partizan's far-right fan group, Grobari, caused a major scandal. The group drew backlash with a racist banner displayed at the start of the game.
Serbian fans unfurled a banner depicting the Serbian nobleman Miloš Obilić, who is said to have stabbed and killed Ottoman Sultan Murad I during the First Battle of Kosovo.
The banner featured a drawing of the scene where Miloš allegedly stabbed Murad I, and after the banner was unfurled, members of Grobari sang a chant frequently used by Red Star and Partizan fans against Turkish teams.
The chant in question includes the lyrics, "Every Turk knows how the Serbian son Obilić stabbed Sultan Murad."
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME!
On the other hand, a scandalous banner was also unfurled during the match against the Czech team Viktoria Plzen, which the Fenerbahçe football team faced in the 4th week of the UEFA Europa League. The banner reading "There should be war with the Turks" displayed by the home team's fans drew backlash.
