Second world championship for national wrestler Nesrin Baş

National athlete Nesrin Baş, competing in the U23 World Wrestling Championships, has won her second consecutive gold medal.

According to the statement from the Turkish Wrestling Federation, the 4th day of the championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has concluded. Medal matches were held in the women's 50, 55, 59, 68, and 76 kg categories.

Nesrin Baş defeated her Belarusian opponent Alina Shauchuk 2-1 in the 68 kg final, becoming world champion once again after her 2022 victory.

With this win, Nesrin has recorded her name as the first female athlete to achieve consecutive championships in the U23 World Wrestling Championships, which have been held since 2017.

Şevval Çayır (55 kg), who was defeated by Kazakh wrestler Zeinep Bayanova in the repechage match, lost her chance at a medal.

National wrestlers Elvira Kamaloğlu (57 kg) and Bükrenaz Sert (72 kg), who took to the mat in the women's qualifiers, advanced to the semifinals but were defeated by their opponents, earning the right to compete in the bronze medal match.

Selvi İlyasoğlu (62 kg) and Büşra Efe (65 kg) earned the right to repechage after the opponents they lost to reached the final. Tuba Demir (53 kg) was eliminated from the championship.

Tomorrow, the championship will feature repechage and medal matches in the women's 53, 57, 62, 65, and 72 kg categories, as well as qualifiers and semifinal matches in the Greco-Roman 60, 67, 72, 82, and 97 kg categories.
