Security concerns at Euro 2024

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said he is concerned that the Euro 2024 organization to be held in Germany could pose security problems.

In an interview with DW Türkçe, Ceferin said, "With the world going geostrategically crazy, our biggest concern is security."

Pointing out that the tournament, which will be held in the shadow of global crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas conflict, could pose a security risk for fans and the local population, Ceferin said, "The stadiums will be safe, but fans will also be spending time in cities and towns."

Ceferin stated that he has met with German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser twice regarding security and that they will meet again.

Noting that the security risk could increase if Ukraine or Israel participate in the tournament, Ceferin said, "This could add a new dimension to the usual security threat facing major tournaments."

Stating that he trusts the support of the German authorities regarding security, Ceferin said, "I think everything will go well."
