The Turkish National Football Team was defeated 4-1 by Italy in Bursa in their second match of the UEFA Nations League A Group 1. Following the match, national player İsmail Yüksek made a striking self-criticism regarding the result.
Stating that they could not display the game they wanted in the first half, Yüksek said that the performance shown after falling 1-0 behind did not suit them. The national player also expressed that the reactions from the fans affected the team.
There was an embarrassing score on the pitch today. There was an embarrassing picture today, both in terms of the score and the effort on the pitch. On my own behalf and on behalf of the team, I promise that we will truly work with all our might to rectify this situation.
The 27-year-old player emphasized that he thought they fought better in the second half, but that the current situation does not suit the National Team. Yüksek assessed, "We are the ones who brought this team to this state. We are also the ones who will bring this team out of this state."
Responding to a question about what was discussed in the locker room after the match, Yüksek stated that there were matters that should remain within the team, noting that the common point was that the effort on the pitch was found to be insufficient.
Touching upon the upcoming away matches against Belgium and Italy, the national player reminded that they are a team that has previously returned from difficult away games with good results. Yüksek used the expression, "Hopefully, this team will get back on its feet."
