Sergen Yalçın blasts Rafa Silva

Beşiktaş Manager Sergen Yalçın detailed the behind-the-scenes of the Rafa Silva crisis that has dominated the agenda recently, stating that the Portuguese player had clearly expressed from the very first day that he "did not want to take part in training or matches." Emphasizing that the process has now turned into an administrative matter, Yalçın said, "Our door is open, let him come and play, but he has completely cut off communication."

Sergen Yalçın blasts Rafa Silva

Beşiktaş President Serdal Adalı and Manager Sergen Yalçın made a joint statement regarding the current situation with Rafa Silva.

Here are Sergen Yalçın's statements...

"We were going to have a meeting with Serken Reçber during the international break to discuss our plans. The process we went through brought us to this situation. I don't want to talk too much about Rafa Silva. I don't know how right it is to talk about our private matters here. You brought us to this point, thank you. Things I never said have been written, and social media is a disaster. This saddens us. This incident is not just about today. I have managed this player more than I have managed anyone else. I was forced to tell the truth, and I will tell it.

On the first day, Rafa Silva told me, 'I am very unhappy, I don't want to stay here. I want to quit football.' Kenny Aroyo said similar things, and we paved the way for him.

Because Rafa is a valuable player, I said, 'We will make you comfortable, we will accommodate you. We won't interfere, we will set you free.' I solved the problem in a short time. After some time passed, the issue started to come up again. When the results on the pitch didn't support me, we became weaker and more pressure started to come our way. These don't matter to me.

A month later, I called Rafa again and explained his value. I explained that he was needed. We tried to pull things together, but during the week of the Kasımpaşa match, the situation went to a point where it couldn't be resolved. He said directly that he would not attend training and would not play in matches.

After these events happened, I told my staff, 'Don't interfere with Rafa.' After he said he didn't want to play, the matter left my hands and became an administrative issue. I told this to the president. Rafa shifted into 5th gear, and I had no way left to solve it.

Our door is open to Rafa Silva; let him come and play. I don't think he has a problem with us, but he has cut off communication! He sends messages through his agent. The matter is outside of me; I have already accommodated him as much as I needed to. I never interfered. If you ask why I took him out of the game, excuse me, we took him out in the 70th minute. Today, even Messi and Ronaldo get taken out of games. No one is bigger than Beşiktaş. We are here today, and we are gone tomorrow.

"HE IS THREATENING THE CLUB"

We have reached a point every Monday where we ask, 'Will Rafa attend training, will he play?' His agent calls and threatens the club. He says he will play if we terminate his contract... This is Beşiktaş... Both Rafa Silva and Sergen Yalçın are replaceable...

I have shown Rafa Silva a tolerance I have never shown anyone else in my life. You can even ask the other players about this.

We managed the crisis very well. We tried to solve it within ourselves. You just found out about it. The player increased the intensity every week.

They say I can't work with star players... I worked with Samuel Eto'o. He is one of the most important stars to ever come to Turkey. One of the three or four stars in the world... I didn't have a problem with Rafa either.

Rafa never disrespected me or acted rudely. He did the tasks assigned to him. If there were problems, I would have solved the issue myself. Since there is no problem, the subject saddens me. If there were a problem, I would swing the axe myself and cut the rope. Talk to Rafa and ask him about the problem. He is not providing behavior that complies with professional contracts.

They say I'm mobbing him... What is mobbing? The friends who come up with these things should go see a psychologist. It helps a lot."

"Have your words from your time as a commentator affected Rafa?"

Then we have to go back to childhood or something! These are difficult topics (laughing). We live with the players, and we are like father and son. Sometimes we love, sometimes we scold. We handle problems internally. But if a very big problem comes up, we can't solve it and we tell the president. Maybe I have a fault too... Maybe I took him out of the game and he got angry at me.

Let's bring Rafa Silva out and let him speak, let him answer your questions himself. For me, there is no problem because we didn't experience a problem. We didn't do anything either; we left him free.

I'm saying it again, let him come... His jersey is there, and he should play. The whole team was built according to Rafa, and players suitable for him were brought in. I want to play a different game, but plans were made according to him. This is also normal.

Maybe he has agreed with another place and wants to leave, how would I know... It is certain that he is planning something, but we are not in this plan! I shouldn't be in it at all! The president isn't either! There is nothing for us to do!

I don't think there is a very different picture. You want to hear different things... We have established very different units for the mid-season and the end of the season. We are making plans for the team to change and develop. We will see over time how correct these will be. Right now, we need to solve the Rafa problem in the most correct way. I didn't intend to come out here. Because I am talking about private things with a player. The football agenda in the country forces me to come out here and explain these...

"WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?"

Lies, lies, lies... Constantly lies on social media! You are constantly influencing people, and you are also influencing the fans.

The player says, 'I don't want to train here, I don't want to play.' What do you not understand? Ask the player. Let the player say it. It's as if we are coming out here to defend ourselves. I have nothing to defend. If I am going to do a job, I do it, and I bear the consequences, whatever they may be. Let him come and talk; there is no problem for us.

"WE ARE FIXING SOME THINGS"

If you can't win at a big club, you can't stay for a very long time. We know what needs to be done; I came to save the future. I can't save the day, but I think I can do this job in the future. One or two transfer windows, maybe three transfer windows are needed.

I can't fix it by tomorrow, but if our fans don't give us this time, who will get this time? Our president has started coming to the facility every day; there are such problems...

On one hand, we are preparing for the match, and on the other hand, we are dealing with these problems. Let us deal with these problems, but we cannot do our job healthily! Let us do our job!

There is a long time left until the end of the league, and I understand the fans. The game is recovering, we are recovering physically... I think we are fixing some things.

"CHAMPIONSHIP IS NOT EASY"

The league is a long marathon. The championship is not easy; there are two opponents ahead. This is football, you never know what will happen! I talk about the championship before and after the match. However, it is not right to talk about everything all the time. You have to say something at the right time. Hopefully, when the day comes, we will have those conversations too.

I never act with prejudice against any player. I try to get efficiency; I don't look at the name. Plans were made before me for the scouting team, and it is under the president's control. Maybe he will make other plans tomorrow. It is like this in Europe too. Plans change in football; the president decides. I don't have a problem with Eduard Graf; I told the president what I had to say.

You can bash us for the new transfers now."
