Sergen Yalçın's 'fair score' statement

Stating that they remain leaders in the group, Yalçın said, "The Turkish Cup is one of our main goals this season. As the Beşiktaş community, we plan to go as far as we can. We can be successful in the cup. It is hard to say we played very well in terms of the game, but we fought well. We played with different players. We made moves to change the game. The score ended 1-1. I don't know, it seems somewhat fair. We could have lost. If it weren't for an early penalty, we might have taken the lead. Because we had started the match well. That's why the score seems somewhat fair."

When asked about the penalty incidents, Sergen Yalçın mentioned that the ball hit Ndidi's hand during the penalty won by Kocaelispor, noting that the position looked like a penalty.

Yalçın stated that they could not see the penalty they were awarded because they were far from the play, adding, "I suppose there was a foul on the player there, if you watch it better on television. I don't know how right it would be for me to comment. Since the beginning of the season, as Beşiktaş, we have had players sent off in derbies, cards not given, penalties not given, and we never shout about these things, yet you are bringing up one penalty in a cup match today. Does it matter who is right here? The match is over now."

When a journalist asked, "Why did we watch such a tense match? Is Beşiktaş interested in any Kocaelispor player?" Yalçın replied as follows:

"We are not interested in any Kocaelispor player. As for the tension, I didn't quite understand it either. It is nice that the tension rose so much and the fans got involved in the game, of course, the Kocaelispor fans are supporting their team. I can understand that. But it is impossible to understand the behavior of the opposing bench on the sidelines. We need to be respectful to each other.

We are managing teams, we are playing matches. The referee can make many decisions against or in favor. We have seen this many times before. This happens to everyone. It happens to them, too. It happens to us, too. Many teams can complain about these issues. But the fact that the tension rose this much seemed a bit strange to me.

Because we are playing a cup match. We are not even playing a league match. Kocaelispor has no problems in the league. They have a good squad. I think they will be successful. I guess it had to be this way."
