Following the decision to perform surgery regarding Marco Asensio's injury at Fenerbahçe, a striking assessment came from former player Can Arat.
The yellow-navy club had announced that a cartilage lesion was detected behind the Spanish player's kneecap and that a surgical intervention was planned for this reason.
Club doctor Ahmet Kulduk stated that different opinions were consulted during the treatment process and that similar opinions were received from doctors in Turkey and the doctor who performed Asensio's surgery in Spain. Kulduk conveyed that the surgery was planned upon the player's own request as well.
Kulduk also emphasized that the knee injury and cruciate ligament strain experienced during the Beşiktaş match last season did not require surgical intervention, and that the current decision for surgery was made due to the cartilage lesion.
Can Arat, who once wore the Fenerbahçe jersey, stated in a post on his social media account that he had experienced the same injury himself.
"From the outside, it looks like 'he will have surgery and return in a few months,' but a cartilage lesion is a footballer's worst nightmare and can bring one to the point of quitting football. I say this as someone who has personally experienced that never-ending cycle of fluid and edema after that surgery; Asensio's situation is not easy at all. I hope he overcomes this difficult process. Get well soon, Asensio!"
