Shocking VAR claim from Şansal Büyüka! '6 out of 12 referees...'

While referee decisions in the Süper Lig continue to spark debate in the sports community, VAR recordings from matches have begun to be published on the TFF's YouTube channel.

The conversations of the referees in these recordings have become a major topic of discussion in the sports world.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that Tolga Özkalfa, the MHK Vice President responsible for VAR, has resigned and that Cem Satman has been appointed in his place.

Journalist Şansal Büyüka, speaking about the background of Özkalfa's resignation, made claims that will be widely discussed.

Speaking on the "Şansal Abi" program broadcast on the 343 Digital YouTube channel, Büyüka said the following:

“I was curious about this, so I did some research. I was a bit surprised that newspapers, television stations, and websites did not pursue this story. Because while VAR is so much on our agenda and never leaves the headlines, the resignation of a TFF member responsible for VAR for two terms should be significant.

What I heard is this: I heard that 6 out of 12 VAR referees are embargoed by a club. There is no chance that what I heard is wrong. He was having trouble there. Secondly; there was a last-minute penalty in the Fenerbahçe-Kasımpaşa match, which was highly debated. One of those managing the federation, one of the top officials, said let's open a disciplinary investigation into the referee. Tolga Özkalfa said, 'What disciplinary investigation? If he gave the right decision, there is no problem. If he gave the wrong one, it falls under referee error. Where did this disciplinary investigation come from? Did the referee do something shameful, did he commit a disgraceful crime? Why are we giving a disciplinary penalty? At most, he would be penalized for a refereeing error.'

Thirdly, because of the penalty given in the Kasımpaşa match, one of the most powerful members of the TFF terrorized Riva for 2 days. From all of this, we understand one thing: Club partisanship, supporting a club, and favoring a club have now seeped into the very marrow and bones of the TFF. The man just resigned and left."

REACTION TO VAR REFEREES: VAR DIRECTLY INFLUENCES THE REFEREE

Following the publication of the VAR recordings, Büyüka criticized the influence of VAR referees on the referee on the pitch, stating, "The VAR recordings revealed something major; it exposed and reported itself. We thought VAR only calls and warns, and does not interfere. The VAR referee directly influences the game. It is as if the referee on the field is a puppet, and those in the VAR room are managing the match. They call the referee and say, 'Look, it hit his arm, this happened.' The referees comply with them; the referees are like guest artists. They are third-class referees who were assigned to VAR because they couldn't succeed on the field, yet these third-class referees are managing first-class referees," he said.
