Spain becomes the first semi-finalist by eliminating EURO 2024 host Germany

In the quarter-final of the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024) held in Germany, Spain and Germany faced off at the Stuttgart Arena. There were no goals in the first half of the match, which was officiated by English referee Anthony Taylor.

The tempo increased in the second half. Spain took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute with a goal by Dani Olmo, who met the ball following a pass from Lamine Yamal. In the 89th minute, Florian Wirtz scored after connecting with a ball headed down by Joshua Kimmich from a cross on the right wing; the ball hit the side post and went into the net, bringing Germany level.

As no further goals were scored in the remaining minutes, the match went into extra time.

In the 119th minute, Mikel Merino sent the ball into the net with a header from an Olmo cross, putting Spain ahead 2-1. This goal became the final score of the match, and the Spaniards secured their place in the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Spain will face the winner of the France vs. Portugal match.
