Spain books place in last 16 with three-goal victory
At the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, Spain defeated Austria 3-0 to advance to the Round of 16.
Spain and Austria faced off at SoFi Stadium in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32. In the match refereed by Swedish official Glenn Nyberg, Spain took the lead 1-0 in the 36th minute through a goal from Mikel Oyarzabal.

That goal also set the score at half-time. In the second half, the goal that put Spain at ease came in the 66th minute.

From a cross by Alex Baena on the left wing, Pedro headed the ball into the net to make it 2-0 for La Roja. Mikel Oyarzabal, who had opened the scoring, then netted the match-clinching goal in the 89th minute, and Luis de la Fuente's side left the pitch with a 3-0 victory to advance to the next round. Spain will face the winner of the Portugal–Croatia match in the Round of 16.
