Fenerbahçe issues early morning statement after incident-filled Göztepe match: No action taken against individual who attacked Ali Koç

Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç walked along the sidelines to the away section while the match was being played, due to the fact that Yellow-Navy fans were not being allowed into the stadium during the Göztepe away game. During this time, Koç was pelted with foreign objects.

As Ali Koç was returning from the away section, an individual named Fatih Özkan, who held an accreditation card, attacked him. Ali Koç fell to the ground as a result of the blow he received from behind. The match was paused during this time.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

STATEMENT FROM FENERBAHÇE: NO ACTION TAKEN AGAINST THE ATTACKER

Fenerbahçe Sports Club released a statement regarding the events in İzmir. The statement indicated that Fatih Özkan, who attacked Ali Koç, watched the remainder of the match with his accreditation card and that no action was taken against him.

The statement is as follows:

During the halftime of the match our Football Team played against Göztepe in the 2nd week of the league;

while our executives were outside meeting with authorities to resolve the grievances of our fans who were still not being allowed into the stadium and were being exposed to pepper spray, our President Ali Y. Koç and our General Secretary Burak Kızılhan went to the section where our fans were located and met with the authorities.

Subsequently, as our President and General Secretary were returning to their seats after our fans were allowed in and the situation calmed down,

a football terrorist holding a Göztepe accreditation card physically attacked our president from behind for no reason whatsoever.

Following the heinous attack, although it was stated by the authorities that the person in question had been taken to the sports branch to give a statement, it was learned that the individual continued to watch the rest of the match with his accreditation card and that no action was taken against him; it was also brought to the public's attention, thanks to the vigilance of a journalist, that he left the stadium freely and having changed his clothes.

While it is common knowledge that under Law No. 6222, which has been in effect in our country for years, immediate action is taken and measures are applied against those involved in even the slightest disturbances,

from whom and from where does this individual with a Göztepe accreditation card derive his privilege?

Who is giving the courage to this individual, who did not hesitate to commit a crime in front of millions and who left the stadium freely without any action being taken against him?

A criminal complaint has been filed by our President Ali Y. Koç against all authorities who were negligent, primarily this football terrorist, and the process will be followed with sensitivity.

Furthermore, we inform the public that we will take all necessary steps regarding what our fans were subjected to before, during, and after the match in question.

Announced to the public.
