Statement from Fenerbahçe regarding UEFA decision

UEFA's Ethics Committee has announced the disciplinary decisions taken during the investigation conducted into the incidents that occurred during the UEFA Champions League play-off round match played between Olympique Lyonnais and Fenerbahçe.

According to the decision, Fenerbahçe players Mason Greenwood received a 30,000 euro fine and a suspended 1-match ban, while Matteo Guendouzi was given a 50,000 euro fine and a 4-match ban. Guendouzi will serve 2 of these 4 matches this season, while the remaining 2 will be subject to a 1-year probationary period.

Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, was fined a total of 95,000 euros due to the events that took place during the Lyon match.

Following the developments, the following statements were included in the announcement made by the yellow-navy club:

"The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has notified us of the decisions it has taken regarding our Club and our players Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood as a result of the disciplinary investigation conducted into the incidents that occurred during our UEFA Champions League match against the Lyon team.

As a result of the disciplinary proceedings conducted by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body; our player Matteo Guendouzi, who was referred for violating the basic rules of sportsmanship and appropriate conduct under Article 11(2)(b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, for insulting players or other persons present at the match under Article 15(1)(a)(iv), and for provoking spectators under Article 15(1)(a)(vi), has been given a 4-match ban, with 2 matches to be served and 2 suspended for a period of 1 year.

Our player Mason Greenwood, who was referred to the disciplinary committee for violating the basic rules of sportsmanship and appropriate conduct under Article 11(2)(b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, has received a 1-match suspension, and said penalty has been suspended for a period of 1 year.

Our club is evaluating the decisions taken by UEFA and the grounds for these decisions through our legal departments, and will carry out the necessary arbitration applications and appeal processes to the UEFA Appeals Body against the penalties imposed."
