Statement from Halil Umut Meler's father: 'I felt the pain of the punch in my heart'
Bülent Meler, the father of FIFA-licensed referee Halil Umut Meler, who was punched by Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca at the end of the MKE Ankaragücü vs. Çaykur Rizespor match in the 15th week of the Süper Lig, has made a statement. Meler said, "I felt the pain of the punch in my heart."
Bülent Meler, the father of FIFA-licensed referee Halil Umut Meler, who was punched by Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca and kicked by two attackers while on the ground following the MKE Ankaragücü vs. Çaykur Rizespor match in the 15th week of the Süper Lig, spoke about the incident.
Speaking to Sabah newspaper, Bülent Meler said, "I watched the match live on television. When I saw my son being punched on television, my heart ached."
'I FELT THE PAIN OF THE PUNCH IN MY HEART'
Stating that he had spoken with Halil Umut Meler and that his condition is good, Bülent Meler's remarks are as follows:
"I watched the match live on television. When I saw my son being punched on television, my heart ached. I felt exactly what any father would feel. I was deeply saddened. I felt the pain of the punch thrown at my son in my own heart. I spoke with my son after the incident. He is doing well. The hospital doctor made a statement along with our Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya. I followed that statement as well. My son will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow (Wednesday). He will leave the hospital and come to İzmir-Selçuk. We will talk in detail face-to-face then."
