Statement from Mourinho that will anger Fenerbahçe fans
Benfica manager Jose Mourinho's decision to once again recall a message from Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has been met with backlash among Fenerbahçe fans.
World-renowned manager Jose Mourinho, who took charge of the Portuguese club Benfica after his tenure at Fenerbahçe, has once again made headlines with his remarks regarding his former club. Speaking ahead of the Champions League play-off round yesterday evening, Mourinho shared a message he received from Real Madrid President Florentino Perez with the public for the second time.
The Portuguese manager, touching upon the close relationship between himself and the Spanish club's president, stated, "He sent me a message when I signed with Benfica. In the message, he said, 'I am glad you have joined a top-level club again.'"
Mourinho's words, having previously disclosed the same exchange, have unsettled Fenerbahçe fans. The experienced coach had made similar remarks during his first days on the job at Benfica, which had also drawn the ire of the Yellow-Navy community.
