Statement from the Trabzon Bar Association: There is no explanation

Trabzon Bar Association President Duygu Keleş Aydın made harsh statements regarding the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe match.

In a written statement, Aydın noted that events occurred during the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe match played on March 17 that are absolutely unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sports.

Underlining that both criminal investigations and the decisions of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) are being closely followed by the entire public, Aydın recalled that some of the fans who entered the pitch are currently in custody on charges of "intentional injury" and "attempted intentional injury."

"THERE IS NO LEGAL EXPLANATION"

Stating that there is no acceptable aspect to entering the pitch during a football match for any reason, Aydın noted the following:

"However, this does not change the fact that the application of the ongoing detention measure in such a disproportionate manner reduces trust in the independent judiciary and seriously damages the belief in a fair trial. On the other hand, the fact that no action has been taken against the football players who performed provocative acts repeatedly from the beginning to the end of the match and who used disproportionate violence against the fans who entered the pitch, despite the complaints and criminal reports filed, has no conscience-based aspect, nor is there any legal explanation for it. As the Trabzon Bar Association, as we have always done throughout our more than 100-year history, we remind all individuals, institutions, and boards of their responsibility to act in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and the equality of everyone before the law, and we invite all the dynamics of our city to take action in defending the rights of the city of Trabzon."
