In the 28th week of the Süper Lig, Başakşehir was defeated 3-0 by Trabzonspor, whom they hosted at home.
Following the match, the orange-navy blue club's head coach Çağdaş Atan stated, "This club has European goals. Moving away from the European goal might cause discomfort for the management. They might want a change in leadership. That is their natural right. The reason for my request for a meeting was entirely this," he had said.
A statement also came from Başakşehir Club following Çağdaş Atan's words.
The following statements were included in the announcement made by the Istanbul team:
"Upon the request of our head coach Çağdaş Atan, a meeting was held with our president Göksel Gümüşdağ and our board of directors.
As a result of this meeting; our head coach Çağdaş Atan, who continued our team's tradition of participating in European cups last season, carried our team to the group stages in the UEFA Conference League, and has an ongoing contract, continues in his duty. We wish our coach Çağdaş and his team success in the remaining weeks."
