Statement on Wilfried Zaha from Ivory Coast!
Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae has left the door open for Galatasaray star Wilfried Zaha to return to the national team.
Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae has stated that Wilfried Zaha, who plays for Galatasaray, could return to the national team.
Stating that the door is open to all players for the national team, Fae said, "Selection is open to everyone; as soon as you perform well at your club, anyone can be selected."
Fae continued his remarks by saying, "For us, for the staff, the most important thing is the mindset. The collective will always come first. We won the Africa Cup of Nations thanks to our mindset."
"WE WILL MAKE THE BEST CHOICES"
"Selection is open to everyone, but players who do not fit the collective mold will eliminate themselves," the 40-year-old coach said, adding, "So, Wilfried Zaha can return. We will hold talks with some players, even those who were in the Africa Cup of Nations squad, and then we will make the best choices for the team."
Ivory Coast's previous head coach before Fae, Jean-Louis Gasset, had not included Wilfried Zaha in the Africa Cup of Nations squad. Gasset had left his position as head coach to Fae while the tournament was still ongoing.
Zaha has made 31 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, scoring 5 goals.
The 31-year-old footballer has scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 32 matches for Galatasaray, where he transferred during the summer transfer window.
