It has been claimed that the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has prioritized Arda Turan in its search for a head coach for the A National Football Team following the parting of ways with Vincenzo Montella. It is noted that if an agreement cannot be reached with Turan, who manages Shakhtar Donetsk, foreign candidates may be brought to the agenda.
It was alleged that one of the names mentioned in the federation's alternative plan is Italian coach Francesco Calzona. It was reported that the 58-year-old coach, who most recently served as the head of the Slovakia National Team, was proposed to the TFF through agents.
CALZONA'S STATEMENT ON TURKEY
Speaking to Mert Efe Demirkan from HT Spor, Calzona said regarding the possibility of Turkey, "My agent warned me to be prepared for an upcoming new assignment. Of course, if this were the Turkish National Team, it would be a great honor for me."
The Italian coach stated that managing the Turkish National Team after his tenure in Slovakia would be an important opportunity for him, adding, "After having a great period in Slovakia, managing Turkey would be a privilege."
Marco Brini, who works as an analyst on Calzona's staff, also said that he was not privy to the details of the process and that the matter was being handled between the head coach and his agent. Emphasizing that they had made good progress with the Slovakia National Team, especially during the European Championship process, Brini expressed that the possibility of Turkey could be a "very beautiful experience."
Arda Turan's performance at Shakhtar Donetsk is considered one of the strongest references in the TFF's search for a domestic head coach. Calzona, on the other hand, recorded 19 wins, 8 draws, and 13 losses in 40 official matches during his approximately four-year tenure with the Slovakia National Team, achieving an average of 1.63 points per game.
