The 16 teams that will face each other in the play-off round will compete in a two-legged knockout format to earn their tickets to the Round of 16.

The draw for the Champions League play-off round will be held today.

LIVERPOOL AT THE TOP

The team that finished the league in first place after the eight-week marathon was the English side Liverpool.

Having won all their matches in the previous 7 weeks, Liverpool lost their unbeaten record in the final week after a 3-2 defeat to Dutch side PSV, but still managed to finish the league in first place with 21 points.

On the other hand, 3 of the teams that advanced directly to the Round of 16 are from the English Premier League. In addition to leaders Liverpool, 3rd-placed Arsenal and 8th-placed Aston Villa were the English teams that continued their journey without needing the play-off stage.

HIGHEST SCORING TEAM IS BARCELONA

Spanish side Barcelona became the highest-scoring team in the UEFA Champions League.

The Catalans managed to score 28 goals against their opponents over the 8-week period while conceding 13 goals.

Italian side Inter, meanwhile, conceded only 1 goal during the league phase.

Dinamo Zagreb, Stuttgart, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bologna, Red Star Belgrade, Sturm Graz, Sparta Prague, Leipzig, Girona, and Salzburg, despite earning points during the 8-week marathon, did not earn the right to compete in the next round.

Swiss side Young Boys, who eliminated Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, finished the league in last place without earning any points, while Slovakia's Slovan Bratislava also bid farewell to Europe without any points.
