Tender process begins: Only one bid for the Formula 1 track!

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism's General Directorate of Foundations announced that Can Bilim Eğitim Kurumları İşletmeciliği AŞ was the only company to submit a bid for the Formula 1 track in Istanbul, which was put up for tender by the Istanbul Foundations 2nd Regional Directorate for a 30-year term with an estimated value of 117.8 million dollars.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, citing ekonomim.com, the company, which is part of Can Holding, was established in May 2023. Information obtained indicates that the official and sole shareholder of the company that received the tender is Mehmet Şakir Can, originally from Doğubeyazıt.

NEW PROJECTS TO BE DEVELOPED

Mehmet Şakir Can, who serves as the President of the Can Holding Energy Group, also holds positions as Chairman of the Board for the fuel distribution company Energy, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Bilgi University, and Chairman of the Board at Doğa Koleji. It has been learned that Can, who was also on the board of the Galatasaray Sports Club during the 2011-12 term, has rolled up his sleeves to implement new projects at the Formula 1 track.

INTERCITY MAY FILE AN OBJECTION

According to one claim, it is said that the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED), which was locked in a long-standing dispute over the track with Intercity, will work with the company on the Formula 1 organizations to be held there. On the other hand, it is rumored that Green Holding, which had announced it would enter the tender, and the most recent operator, Intercity, did not submit bids, and that Intercity may even file an objection to the tender specifications.
