TFF statement on the foreign player rule: Will there be a limit?

Turkish Football Federation (TFF) National Teams Supervisor Ceyhun Kazancı answered questions from NTV Spor.

Kazancı made statements regarding the foreign player rule.

Stating that "We do not want a constantly changing rule," Kazancı continued as follows:

"We are of the opinion that we should conduct detailed studies, examine this from every angle, and then make a decision that will be long-term. A rule that changes every year also puts a strain on our clubs. This year, there was no change in the number of players. Only the number of Turkish players on the pitch changed. This year, it was kept fixed at 14 so that some of our clubs would not face difficulties due to the drop from 14 to 12, and so they could keep them in the squad to avoid rightful termination issues."

"WE WILL MAKE A DECISION STARTING FROM NEXT SEASON"

Continuing his remarks, Kazancı said:

"Now, looking at the foreign player limit and the number unilaterally is not very sufficient. First, we need to improve the pool of Turkish players. We need to increase the playing time and quality of players who grow up in youth academies and play in the lower leagues. We do not want 'there to be 3 on the pitch, but only because there has to be 3.' This is not a one-day thing. It is something that can only be possible with a youth development project and the expansion of the pool below. Even if there were unlimited foreign players, I do not think it would negatively affect the national team.

I think the number 14 is sufficient during this transition period. We will definitely make a decision starting from next season, and this decision will be long-term. We have no intention of making a one-year decision."
