The 16-year longing has ended: A remarkable statistic for Kocaelispor as they promote to the Süper Lig

Finishing the season at the top of the Trendyol 1. Lig and returning to the Süper Lig after a 16-year hiatus, Kocaelispor experienced a double celebration by adding the top scorer title to this success. The green-and-black team has achieved the feat of both securing a ticket to the Süper Lig and producing the league's top scorer in a single season for the fourth time in its history.

As one of the deep-rooted communities of Turkish football, Kocaelispor stands out not only with team success but also with individual performances during the periods it promotes to the Süper Lig.

Kocaelispor promoted to the Süper Lig as champions under the management of Fethi Demircan in the 1979-1980 season, Güvenç Kurtar in 1991-1992, and Engin İpekoğlu in 2007-2008.

In each of these periods, the team not only promoted but also added the top scorer title to its record. Güvenç Kurtar with 17 goals in 1979-1980, Saffet Sancaklı with 28 goals in 1991-1992, and Taner Gülleri with 21 goals in 2007-2008 were the top scorers of those seasons.

In the 2023-2024 season, Kocaelispor, under the management of head coach İsmet Taşdemir, achieved victory both as a team and was crowned with individual success. Scoring 21 goals, Oğulcan Çağlayan shared the league's top scorer title with Wesley Moraes from Fatih Karagümrük, continuing yet another tradition.

Kocaelispor Press Spokesperson Kadir Genç stated in his remarks that it is no ordinary achievement for the club to produce the top scorer every time it promotes to the Süper Lig.

Relating this picture to the club's football philosophy, Genç said:

"This situation is an indicator of both Kocaelispor's football culture and its attacking power. When we look at our history, we see that every time we promote to the Süper Lig, the season's top scorer wears the Kocaelispor jersey. This shows that we not only promote to the Süper Lig but also play the most effective attacking football in the league. We are experiencing the same pride this year. Our fans want to watch not only a victory but also enjoyable and attacking football. We took the field with this understanding throughout the season. The top scorer title is also an indicator of this approach."

Evaluating Oğulcan Çağlayan becoming the top scorer, Genç emphasized that this cannot be explained solely by individual talent and drew attention to the importance of the system:

"This shows that the player is developed correctly in physical, mental, and tactical terms and that he plays within the right system. As Kocaelispor, we are a club that tries to maximize the potential of our players. Oğulcan, like our other players in the league, performed well and became the top scorer at the end of the league. We congratulate him. Having a top scorer from Kocaelispor shows how much we value our players and how much effort we put into their development."
