The 2025-26 season of the Trendyol Super Lig has been named after Mehmet Ali Yılmaz

In its statement, the TFF said, "The Turkish Football Federation Board of Directors, in its evaluation, has decided that the remaining weeks will be played as the '2025-2026 Trendyol Super Lig Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Season,' as part of the practice of organizing the Super Lig in memory of football figures and former national players who have made unforgettable contributions to Turkish football."

Providing information about Mehmet Ali Yılmaz, the statement noted, "Mehmet Ali Yılmaz, who made very significant contributions to Turkish sports, served our country as Minister of Youth and Sports in addition to his role as a member of parliament. Yılmaz, who served as Minister of Youth and Sports during two government terms, played a major role in the Turkish Football Federation gaining an autonomous structure and was one of the individuals who organized the pool system in football. Yılmaz, who served as president of Trabzonspor for three terms, becoming the person to hold this position for the longest time at the club, was also elected honorary president. During Mehmet Ali Yılmaz's presidency, Trabzonspor won the Presidential Cup, the League Championship, the Turkish Cup, and the Prime Ministry Cup once each."

The statement concluded with the words, "We once again wish God's mercy upon the late Mehmet Ali Yılmaz and extend our condolences to his family, relatives, loved ones, and the entire sports community, especially Trabzonspor."
