The disgrace in Saudi Arabia makes headlines in the world press!

The cancellation of the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray Super Cup final, which was scheduled to be played this evening in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has also been reflected in the world press.

The British newspaper The Sun published the newswith the headline, "Turkish Super Cup final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe cancelled at the last minute after teams refuse to play." The report stated that both teams refused to take the field following the ban on Atatürk banners and t-shirts, adding that the players did not leave their hotels due to the dispute. 

Reuters also reported that the Turkish Super Cup final in Riyadh was cancelled due to controversy. The report, which stated that the crisis arose because the playing of the National Anthem and the use of Atatürk banners were rejected, recalled that Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been trying to repair their relations recently, following the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.  

DailyMail: Banners of Turkey's founder banned

DailyMail shared the news with the headline, "Saudi Arabia bans banners of Turkey's founder." The report noted that Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray players refused to leave their hotels, while fans remained at the stadium. Emphasizing that the match coincided with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, the report stated that no agreement could be reached with the Saudi authorities.

Mirror: Atatürk was not permitted

The Mirror newspaper stated in its report that Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray were not allowed to commemorate Atatürk. The report noted, "Following an agreement between the Turkish Football Federation and Saudi officials, the match was to be played at Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh. However, hours before the match was set to begin, the Saudis banned both teams from wearing shirts featuring Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, during their warm-up exercises."
