The final is set: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona
Barcelona secured their spot in the final after defeating Osasuna 2-0 in the second semi-final match of the Spanish Super Cup.
The first half of the match, played at Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, ended in a 0-0 draw. In the 59th minute, Polish forward Robert Lewandowski sent the ball into the net following a pass from İlkay Gündoğan, putting Barcelona 1-0 ahead.
The second goal, which secured the Catalan team's place in the final, came from Lamine Yamal in the 90+3rd minute. Barcelona will face Real Madrid, who defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 after extra time in the first semi-final match of the tournament, in the final on January 14 at 22:00 TSI.
Barcelona, the club that has won the Spanish Super Cup the most times with 14 titles, became the reigning champion of this cup by defeating Real Madrid 3-1 in last year's final. Real Madrid ranks second among the clubs that have won the Super Cup the most, with 12 titles.
In 2020, Spain changed the format of the Super Cup to a "final four" (league champion, league runner-up, and Copa del Rey finalists) and moved it to Saudi Arabia as part of an agreement. Under the current agreement, Barcelona and Real Madrid each received 2.8 million euros for participating in the Super Cup tournament, while Atletico Madrid received 1.7 million euros and Osasuna received 750 thousand euros.
Additionally, 1 million euros is paid to the teams that reach the final, and an extra 2 million euros is paid to the team that wins the cup.
