Thorsten Fink: Anything is possible in football

In the UEFA Conference League Round of 16, they were defeated 3-1 at home by Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. Samsunspor manager Thorsten Fink evaluated the match at the post-match press conference.

Expressing his sadness over the defeat, Fink said, "It was a difficult match and we lost. They waited for our mistakes, we made mistakes, and we lost. The opponent is a very mature team. We were the side that had more possession. The expected goals were similar. When we look at the statistics, we were better.

They were the better team, their ability to play by rote was better than ours. There is a second leg. Anything is possible in football. If we can find an early goal, we can hurt them. We have many missing and injured players. It is important for them to return for the coming weeks. We had to play with Carlo Holse on the wing today. He is normally a central player. The other wingers had to come on later due to their injuries," he said.

Stating that the opponent closed down the goal-scoring lanes well, Fink also added the following:

"We played against a good team. We couldn't create too many chances. The expected goals rate was kept at 0.55, but despite that, we played against a very strong opponent. They closed the gaps very well. Maybe they could even win the Conference League. These results are normal against such strong teams."
