Tolunay Kafkas criticizes Montella: 'He didn't deserve to be appointed to the National Team'

Tolunay Kafkas, who served for many years as Turkey's youth development coordinator and U21 national team coach, and most recently managed Fatih Karagümrük, made remarks on HT Spor regarding A National Team head coach Vincenzo Montella.

WHY SHOULD WE GIVE THIS TEAM TO MONTELLA?

Stating that our current national team is a developing squad, Tolunay Kafkas said: "Why should we give a developing national team to Montella? Why should we? If it is a developing national team, you need to choose a different type of coach.

The national team is not a place where people can be brought in just to maintain certain balances. There are no substitute players on the national team. There are only players who receive a task and those who do not," he said.

THE BEST NATIONAL TEAM OF ITS ERA

Speaking recently as a guest on Salim Manav's live broadcast on Radyospor, Tolunay Kafkas said: "There is no such thing as a local or foreign coach. Except for our A National Team. I have always said that there should be a local head coach for the A National Team. We played very poorly in the Wales match, but we played well in our second match against Iceland. It must be stated that the results we achieved in the European Championship are normal results. This national team is a very good national team. Perhaps one of the best national teams of its era.

'MONTELLA DID NOT DESERVE TO COME TO THE NATIONAL TEAM'

I am against the perception that Montella is doing a very good job. Montella did not deserve to come to the A National Team. If you are looking for a coach for the A National Team, you determine three tiers. In the first tier, there would be names like Fatih [Terim] Hoca, Şenol [Güneş] Hoca, and Mustafa [Denizli] Hoca. In the second tier, there would be the middle generation. In the third tier, there would be the young generation; names like İlhan Palut, Fatih Tekke, and Çağdaş Atan could be there.

Before Montella, a second-rate coach came: Kuntz came. Montella's arrival is an injustice to Rıza Çalımbay. Now Mourinho has come to Fenerbahçe. If Mourinho came to the National Team, that would be fine," he had said.
