National athlete Tuğba Danışmaz finished second on the third day of the 2024 European Athletics Championships held in Italy, breaking the Turkish record.
Medals were awarded in the women's triple jump at the event held at the Olympic Stadium in the capital, Rome.
National athlete Tuğba Danışmaz recorded a jump of 14.29 meters in her first attempt. Breaking the Turkish record with 14.57 meters in her second attempt, Tuğba also secured her ticket to Paris 2024.
Spanish athlete Ana Peleteiro won the gold medal with a jump of 14.85 meters in her fourth attempt, matching the best performance in Europe this year.
Tuğba Danışmaz took the silver medal with 14.57 meters, while French athlete Ilionis Guillaume won the bronze medal with 14.43 meters.
In the history of the event, Turkey had previously won a bronze medal in the triple jump with national athlete Ruhi Sarıalp in Brussels in 1950.
Tuğba Danışmaz had won the gold medal in the women's triple jump at the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships held in Istanbul.
Tuğba Danışmaz also secured a quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
