Turkey drops in FIBA world rankings

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has released its world rankings following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 pre-qualifiers. While the USA maintained its top spot by winning the gold medal at Paris 2024, several other countries moved up due to their performances in the event. Turkey dropped 3 places to rank 17th with 345.6 points.

Turkey drops in FIBA world rankings

The USA, which secured its 8th consecutive and 10th overall championship in Paris 2024, continued to lead the rankings with 883.3 points. France moved up four spots to third place after reaching the final. Australia holds the second position in the rankings.

Another significant jump was made by Nigeria, which climbed four spots to enter the top 10 at eighth place. Having secured victory in the group stage, Nigeria achieved two wins for the first time and also became the first African country (men's or women's) to reach the quarterfinals at the Olympic Games.

Germany also made history by advancing to the quarterfinals at the Olympic Games and securing two group stage victories. As a result, they climbed eight spots to 13th place. Another success came from Serbia, which participated in the quarterfinals at Paris 2024. They improved their standing from 10th to 9th place.

There were also risers among the teams that succeeded in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in Mexico and Rwanda. After winning the tournament in Mexico, Czechia not only secured a ticket to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifiers but also climbed two spots to 21st place. Additionally, Hungary won the tournament in Kigali, moving up one spot to 15th in the rankings.
