UEFA assigns duty to Atilla Karaoğlan, who was allegedly assaulted

FIFA-badged referee Atilla Karaoğlan will officiate the UEFA Conference League play-off round second leg match between Andorra's Santa Coloma and Iceland's Vikingur Reykjavik, to be played on Thursday, August 29.

According to the statement made by UEFA, Atilla Karaoğlan will be assisted by Ceyhun Sesigüzel and Abdullah Özkara in the match, which will be played at the La Vella National Stadium in Andorra and will start at 21:00 TSI. The fourth official of the match will be Çağdaş Altay.

Vikingur Reykjavik had defeated Santa Coloma 5-0 in the first leg of the play-off round.

ALLEGATION THAT KARAOĞLAN WAS ASSAULTED

It was alleged that Atilla Karaoğlan, who officiated the Antalyaspor - Hatayspor match in the 3rd week of the Süper Lig, was assaulted in the locker room during halftime.

ALLEGED PHYSICAL INTERFERENCE

On the Skor program of the broadcaster beIN Sports, it was claimed that there was tension between Antalyaspor President Sinan Boztepe and the match referee Atilla Karaoğlan during halftime.

Program host Cihan Erduran stated in his explanation regarding the incident that a person thought to be Boztepe's bodyguard physically interfered with referee Karaoğlan.

'THERE IS FOOTAGE OF KARAOĞLAN BEING PUSHED'

Erduran included the following statements in his explanation:

"There is footage of an incident during halftime between Antalyaspor President Mr. Sinan Boztepe and match referee Atilla Karaoğlan, which also involved a gentleman who appeared to be Mr. Sinan Boztepe's bodyguard, and in which match referee Atilla Karaoğlan was pushed by that gentleman. However, I am disclosing this footage now and will leave it at that. What has happened so far regarding the damage to our league's brand value is clear. We do not want our league's brand value to be damaged any further, so we are not sharing these images with you. We leave it to the discretion of the public."
