Uğurcan Çakır’s Galatasaray confession
Speaking at the training camp in Austria, Uğurcan Çakır said he is ready for the captaincy and emphasized that their goal is a fifth consecutive championship.
Galatasaray’s national goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır made statements at the training camp held in the Windischgarsten region of Austria as part of the new season preparations. Evaluating his first season with the yellow-red team, Çakır also gave a clear answer to the question about the captaincy.
Stating that Galatasaray is a massive community, the 30-year-old goalkeeper pointed to the names who helped him within the team, saying, “Galatasaray is a very big community. We have very good captains. Abdülkerim and Icardi helped me a lot here. There is Kaan, we have good captains. If Galatasaray deems us worthy, I would like to be captain. But we already have very good captains.”
Stating that he found last season positive for both himself and the team, Çakır expressed that he wants to raise his performance even higher in the new season. The national goalkeeper said, “The first season went well for me and my team. Hopefully, I will try to do more than last year this season.”

DEPARTURE FROM TRABZONSPOR AND EMPHASIS ON MUSLERA
Describing the process of leaving Trabzonspor as one of the most difficult decisions of his career, Uğurcan Çakır said that breaking away from the burgundy-blue club, where he wore the jersey for many years, was emotional. Çakır stated, “It was difficult, it was emotional. Because I played for Trabzonspor for many years. But I thought I needed to come here to prove some things.”
Touching upon Fernando Muslera, who has guarded the goal at Galatasaray for many years, Çakır stated that he respects the legacy left by the Uruguayan goalkeeper. The experienced gloveman said, “Muslera achieved great things. It is almost impossible to catch them. But I will help both the Galatasaray community and my teammates as much as I can.”
Reminding that the yellow-red team is aiming for a fifth consecutive championship, Çakır expressed that this holds a special meaning for the club and head coach Okan Buruk. Çakır explained their goals with the words, “It will be a difficult league, but as the champions of the last four years, we want to do everything we can and become champions again with our best performance.”
Describing the Paraguay match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the saddest match of his career, the national goalkeeper said in his assessment of the tournament, “Being in the World Cup after 24 years was an achievement in itself. But we had the strength to get out of the group. More than the performances, what saddened me the most was that we could not make our nation proud.”
Saying that if he had the chance to go back in time, he would like to be in the Galatasaray squad that included Burak Yılmaz, Selçuk İnan, and Didier Drogba, Çakır said, “That was a good squad. I think it would have been nice to be in that squad.” Sending a message to the fans, the national goalkeeper said they want to experience the record of five consecutive championships together.
