Ukraine does not give up: They come from behind to defeat Slovakia
After losing 3-0 to Romania in their first match in Group E at EURO 2024, Ukraine defeated Slovakia, who had beaten favorites Belgium in their second match, 2-1.
Ukraine came from behind to defeat Slovakia 2-1 in their second Group E match of the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024).
The Slovaks, who started the match played at the Düsseldorf Arena well, took the lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Ivan Schranz. Despite a few chances for both sides in the remainder of the first half, neither team could find the net, and Slovakia went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
Ukraine, starting the second half effectively, equalized in the 54th minute with a goal from Mykola Shaparenko. Continuing their superior play with the support of their fans, Ukraine took the lead in the 80th minute with a goal from Roman Yaremchuk. Not allowing their opponent to find an equalizer in the remaining time, Ukraine left the pitch with a 2-1 victory.
Following this result, Ukraine earned their first points in the group. Slovakia, who had beaten favorites Belgium 1-0 in their first match in the group, remained on 3 points.
SCHRANZ KEEPS SCORING
Slovakia's attacking player Ivan Schranz has started the 2024 European Football Championship very effectively.
The 30-year-old winger, who plays for Slavia Prague, had scored his country's only goal in the match where his team defeated Belgium 1-0 in the group's first game.
By scoring the goal that put his country ahead in the 17th minute against Ukraine, Schranz managed to make an impact on the score in both matches.
FIRST GOAL FOR UKRAINE FROM SHAPARENKO
Mykola Shaparenko scored the first goal for Ukraine at EURO 2024.
While Ukraine could not find the back of the net in their first match in the group, they sent their first goal into the Slovakian net.

3RD TEAM TO WIN FROM BEHIND
Ukraine became the 3rd team in the tournament so far to win a match after falling behind.
Previously in the championship, Italy had fallen behind against Albania and won the match 2-1.
The Netherlands had finished the match against Poland, in which they fell behind 1-0, with the same score.
Meanwhile, a moment of silence was held before the match for former UEFA General Secretary Gerhard Aigner, who passed away.
