Ümit Özdağ stated, "Busenaz Sürmeneli lost to a Thai trans boxer. The Thai athlete may feel like a woman, but it is not the feelings of a woman that enter the ring, but the physique of a man. This is not sport; it is violence against women. The Olympic Committee has initiated a process that betrays sports," he said.

Congratulating Sürmeneli, Ümit Özdağ also sent a message of support, saying, "My sister Busenaz, I congratulate you sincerely. You did your best."
