US Vice President Vance sets date for negotiations
Speaking to the American channel Fox News, US Vice President Vance stated that final preparations are being made for negotiations with Iran to begin.
Explaining that diplomatic processes are always somewhat challenging and require many preliminary preparations, Vance said they are waiting for Iranian, Qatari, and Pakistani officials to arrive in Switzerland.
Providing information that he himself would be setting off in a few days, Vance responded to the question of when the talks would begin by saying, "As early as tomorrow. We will start the talks when officials from the Iranian government and the governments of Qatar and Pakistan arrive."
Message that "the ceasefire will continue"
On the other hand, Vance expressed that he is "very confident" that Washington can maintain the current ceasefire "despite possible differences in strategic implementation."
"I am extremely confident that we can maintain the ceasefire. I don't know if there is a disagreement on the goals, or if sometimes there is just a disagreement on how to achieve those goals," said Vance, emphasizing that even if there are some differences of opinion within the Israeli government, US President Donald Trump's stance on negotiations with Iran is clear.
Strait of Hormuz open to transit
Meanwhile, in an interview given before Iran's announcement that it had temporarily closed the Strait of Hormuz to transit, Vance noted that they did not have clear information regarding the reports about the Strait.
Vance commented, "In the last 24 hours, 16 million barrels of oil have passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This figure has almost reached the level from before the war began, and this shows that the Strait is actually open right now."
The US Vice President said, "We do not see any evidence that the Iranians are still continuing to close the Strait of Hormuz."
