In the second week of Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which also includes the Turkish National Football Team, the USA and Australia faced off at Seattle Stadium.
The USA took the lead in the 11th minute of the match, officiated by German referee Felix Zwayer. Balogun entered the penalty area from the left wing and sent a hard, low cross; the ball deflected off Australian player Burgess in front of the goal and went into his own net. (1-0) In the 43rd minute, Freeman sent the ball into the net from in front of the goal after a shot by Dest from the edge of the penalty arc deflected off the defense, but the assistant referee raised the offside flag.
Following a VAR review, the goal was validated, and the host team finished the first half with a 2-0 lead.
As both teams' attacks remained fruitless in the second half, the USA won the match 2-0, increasing their points to 6 and continuing their lead.
In the final match of the group, the USA will face Turkey. Australia will face off against Paraguay.
