VAR crisis continues: TFF's decision on foreign referees

Controversial decisions, particularly those stemming from VAR during the opening weeks of the Trendyol Süper Lig, have led to intense criticism within the football community. With the increase in erroneous calls, proposals for "foreign referees" have returned to the agenda. Following this development, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and the Central Referee Board (MHK) held a critical meeting on the matter.

Last season, foreign referees served in the VAR room, and their controversial decisions were a topic of discussion for a long time. At the beginning of this year, the TFF had announced that only domestic referees would serve in the VAR room. However, the consecutive errors experienced in the new season have brought the clubs' demands to "bring in foreign referees with international experience" back to the forefront.

According to the decision taken after the meeting, Turkish referees will continue to serve in the VAR room for the remaining weeks of the league. Thus, the federation has definitively announced that the option of using foreign referees will not be implemented throughout the season.
