In the first match of Group F at the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024), the National Football Team defeated Georgia 3-1 at the BVB Dortmund Stadium.
Speaking at the press conference held after the match, National Football Team Head Coach Vincenzo Montella said, "There was an incredible crowd of Turkish fans in the stadium. I have experienced many special moments in my 50 years of life, and their happiness today is truly the best gift they could have given me."
"IT WAS AN IMPORTANT START"
Stating that they made a very important start to the tournament, the Italian coach said, "For the first time, we are starting the European Championship group stage with a win. It is truly beautiful and gratifying. Our first goal is to advance from the group stage.
Then we will proceed step by step. Our team has achieved many firsts recently. Let us remember our victory in Croatia and our victory in Germany after 72 years.
These are things we can achieve when we move forward step by step. But our first goal is to advance from the group stage," he said.
"MY BIGGEST WISH IS TO GET A VICTORY AGAINST PORTUGAL"
Speaking about the Portugal match, Montella said, "We do not have a victory against Portugal in an official match. My biggest wish is to get a victory against Portugal in an official match. We celebrated today, and from tomorrow on, we will concentrate on the match. We will gather our physical and mental energy and prepare for the match," he stated.
Reminding that Hakan Çalhanoğlu is a tremendous footballer, Vincenzo Montella said, "He showed this many times this season. We have an incredible footballer. It is said that our team plays without a striker. But let no one forget that we have a very offensive team.
Our wings and our full-backs are very offensive players. It was expected that our captain Hakan Çalhanoğlu would show such a good defensive performance while there were two center-backs, but frankly, we thought he would struggle more than he did. At Inter, he plays with 3 center-backs behind him. He showed us once again what a great player he is here," he concluded.
