Vitor Pereira's take on the Fenerbahçe - Galatasaray derby! He compared Dzeko and Icardi
Vitor Pereira, who previously managed Fenerbahçe for two terms, made statements ahead of the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray match in the Süper Lig.
In the 18th week of the Süper Lig, Fenerbahçe will host its arch-rival Galatasaray at home.
Ahead of the critical derby, which also closely concerns the title race, Fenerbahçe's former head coach Vitor Pereira made statements.
Speaking to Fanatik, Pereira said that the derby is at a level that will determine the championship.
Stating that the winner of the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby will gain a psychological advantage, Pereira said, "This derby is at a level that will determine who reaches the happy ending at the end of the season."
Pereira continued his words as follows:
"The winner will gain both the 3-point advantage and the psychological edge to hold onto the championship more tightly."
Discussing the impact Edin Dzeko and Mauro Icardi will have on the derby, Vitor Pereira said, "We are talking about very high-level players. They have a lot of experience in making decisions in such big matches. Both of them will be kept under heavy marking in the derby. In fact, defenders will try to defend them with double-teaming. In this way, they can open up empty spaces for other players to score goals."
Touching upon the performances of Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Osayi-Samuel, the Portuguese coach said, "I am not surprised. Because both of them had technical skills and wanted to learn new things every day. When you have good players in the squad physically and technically, and they also want to learn tactical skills, they can reach the top level. They are not just excellent players. They are also wonderful as human beings. They are extremely humble in terms of improving their levels and learning."
When asked if he would like to work in Turkey again, Vitor Pereira concluded his words by saying, "I want to be part of a project where I will build a strong team and fight for this team to win championships. This could be a club in Turkey or another country. Of course, I must have the right conditions for a strong team. My goal is to create a team consisting of a mix of experienced and young players, competing for the championship, and participating in the Europa League or Champions League. I will respect Fenerbahçe forever. However, at the same time, I am a professional head coach. If I become the coach of a club, naturally that club will be my family and my life. We need to be like this in life and respect our past."
