What is the latest on the betting investigation? TFF President Hacıosmanoğlu warns: 'Some clubs will be harmed by this'
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu stated that data regarding the ongoing illegal betting investigation in football has been received from the state, adding, "There is an earthquake in football. Some clubs will be harmed by this."
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu stated that the illegal betting investigation has caused a major tremor within the football community.
Providing updates during a press conference, Hacıosmanoğlu said, "Some clubs will be harmed by this. The data is coming to us from the state. We may suffer for 1-2 years, but the future will be bright."
“I HOPE OUR CLUBS WILL CLEAN UP THEIR OWN ACTS”
Noting that the investigation began with referees and that players will also be examined during the process, the TFF President said, "After this review, we will have cleaned ourselves up. I hope our clubs will also clean up their own acts."
“THERE WERE THOSE WHO TRIED TO DILUTE THE ISSUE”
Responding to questions from journalists afterward, Hacıosmanoğlu was asked about the future trajectory of Turkish football.
He responded to this question with the following remarks:
"There were those who tried to pull the issue into different areas and dilute it. This has no benefit to society. You might gain an advantage institutionally, but you will not contribute to this sacred duty. If we want clean football, you must continue to provide the same support even when we touch upon you."
ARE ILLEGAL SITES BEING INVESTIGATED?
When asked whether data regarding individuals playing on foreign betting sites has been received, he replied:
"Interpol is also involved. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's investigations into the illegal aspect are ongoing. Of course, that is what is important. A very comprehensive investigation is underway through both MASAK and HTS records. That is where the root of the filth will be eradicated."
"IF WE ARE TO BE CLEANED, WE WILL ALL BE CLEANED TOGETHER"
Reiterating his words, "If we are to be cleaned, we will all be cleaned together," Hacıosmanoğlu added, "If we are not cleaned, we will drown."
The TFF President also remarked, "Those who managed football here covered up such things; if you cover these up, people become emboldened."
102 PLAYERS PENALIZED
The Professional Football Disciplinary Board had imposed bans ranging from 45 days to 12 months on 102 players on the grounds that they had engaged in betting.
Furthermore, it was announced that the duties of 149 referees who were penalized for the same reason had been terminated.
STATEMENT FROM AKIN GÜRLEK: NEW OPERATION ON THE AGENDA
The illegal betting investigation in football is being conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek stated in his remarks last week that a new operation could be on the agenda.
"We have an agreement with UEFA and INTERPOL. They will send us a list," said Gürlek, expressing that they want football to be purified.
