As the Turkish Football Federation's search for a new head coach for the National Team continues, the name of experienced manager Şenol Güneş has come to the fore once again.
Following the National Team's defeat in all 4 matches played in the UEFA Nations League A, the TFF parted ways with head coach Vincenzo Montella. The federation management, led by President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, continues its efforts to determine the new head coach of the crescent-star team.
During this process, Şenol Güneş's name is being mentioned in connection with two different options. According to the first claim, the TFF has brought the football director system back onto its agenda alongside the search for a head coach, and the possibility of appointing Güneş to this position is being evaluated.
In another scenario, it has been suggested that if a new head coach cannot be determined in the short term, the National Team could head into the matches against Belgium and France in November with an interim manager, and that Şenol Güneş's name is being mentioned for this formula as well.
Speaking to Odatv regarding these claims, Şenol Güneş replied, "I am not interested in those matters."
The 74-year-old manager previously coached the National Team in two separate periods and achieved a third-place finish in the 2002 World Cup. Güneş recorded 38 wins, 23 draws, and 21 losses in the 82 matches he managed at the helm of the national team, achieving an average of 1.67 points per match.
Şenol Güneş most recently served at Trabzonspor, leaving the burgundy-blue team in March 2025.
