National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has advanced to the second round of the women's doubles category at the US Open, the final grand slam tournament of the season.
Competing in the first round of the tournament held in New York alongside her German partner Tatjana Maria, Sönmez defeated the duo of Ekaterina Alexandrova and Talia Gibson with sets of 6-3 and 7-6, winning 2-0.
The Maria-Sönmez pair will face the tournament's 3rd-seeded duo, Anna Danilina and Ana Krunic, in the second round.
