Zeynep Sönmez advances to the second round of US Open qualifiers
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez, competing in the qualifiers for the US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the season, has advanced to the final round of the qualifiers.
Facing 22nd seed Hungarian player Dalma Galfi in the first round of the qualifiers, Sönmez defeated Galfi 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the qualifiers.
In the second round of the qualifiers, Sönmez took to the court against Swiss tennis player Jil Teichmann and defeated her 7-5, 6-0 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 21 minutes, securing her place in the final round of the qualifiers.
Zeynep's final opponent on the road to the main draw will be the 2nd seed of the qualifiers, world number 101 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
