Zeynep Sönmez bids farewell to Wimbledon in the first round of doubles
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez and her partner Jessica Bouzas Maneiro were defeated 2-1 by the duo of Aoyama and Liang in the first round of the Wimbledon women's doubles.
Competing in the season's third grand slam tournament, Wimbledon, Zeynep Sönmez was eliminated in the first round of the women's doubles category.
Sönmez, who took to the court with her Spanish partner Jessica Bouzas Maneiro at the tournament held in London, the capital of England, faced the 13th-seeded duo of Japanese player Shuko Aoyama and Taiwanese player Liang En-shuo.
Although the Sönmez-Bouzas Maneiro pair won the first set 7-5, they lost the subsequent sets 2-6 and 2-6, leaving the match with a 2-1 defeat. With this result, Zeynep Sönmez's doubles journey at Wimbledon ended in the first round.
The national tennis player had also previously bid farewell to the tournament in the second round of the singles category.
