Zeynep, ranked 155th in the world women's rankings, faced world number 189 Lulu Sun in the final round of qualifiers for the tournament held in Melbourne.
The 21-year-old national tennis player lost the first set 6-4 but leveled the match by winning the second set 6-3. However, Lulu Sun gained the upper hand in the final set, winning 6-2 to take the match 2-1 and qualify for the main draw. With this result, Zeynep Sönmez has bid farewell to the Australian Open.
