Zeynep Sönmez loses to Coco Gauff at the US Open
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has ended her singles campaign at the US Open after a 2-0 defeat to world number 4 Coco Gauff in the first round.
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has bid farewell to the singles category in the first round of the US Open, the final grand slam tournament of the season.
Sönmez, ranked 53rd in the world, faced American world number 4 Coco Gauff in the first round. Gauff won the match 2-0, taking the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-4, to advance to the second round.
Competing in the US Open main draw for the second time in her career, Zeynep Sönmez had experienced her first main draw appearance at the tournament last year, where she reached the second round.
Sönmez's US Open journey will continue in the doubles category. The national tennis player will take to the court alongside German player Tatjana Maria. The Sönmez/Maria duo will face the pair of Ekaterina Alexandrova and Talia Gibson in the first round.
