AJet bans powerbank use on flights

After a flight on the Istanbul–Seoul route was forced to turn back due to a powerbank that fell between seats, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu had announced that airlines were advised to ban the use of powerbanks on flights to prevent a similar risk from occurring again. Following that announcement, Turkish Airlines and Pegasus had banned the use of powerbanks inside the cabin. AJet similarly announced its decision to ban the use of powerbanks inside the cabin.

AJET ANNOUNCES NEW DECISIONS

According to a statement from the company, new decisions have been made regarding the use and carriage of portable charging devices on aircraft, in line with the advisory decision of the SHGM (Directorate General of Civil Aviation).

In the statement from AJet: "AJet, pursuant to the advisory decision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, has made new decisions regarding the use and carriage of portable charging devices on aircraft. Accordingly, portable charging devices with lithium batteries of up to 100 Watt/hours (powerbanks), e-cigarettes, and spare/external batteries will be carried in cabin baggage. However, they will not be operated or used on board the aircraft."

The company's statement also noted: "For lithium batteries between 100–160 Watt/hours, permission must be obtained from the airline. Lithium batteries exceeding 160 Watt/hours will not be carried as passenger baggage, but may only be transported as cargo provided that certain conditions are met."
