Lufthansa suspends Tehran flights due to expected Iranian attack

German airline Lufthansa has suspended flights to and from Tehran, the capital of Iran, due to the current situation in the Middle East.

A Lufthansa spokesperson stated, "We are constantly monitoring the situation in the Middle East and are in close contact with the authorities. The safety of our guests and crew members is Lufthansa's top priority."

The spokesperson noted that the situation will be re-evaluated.

Lufthansa is known as the only Western airline that operates international flights to Tehran, a route primarily served by Turkish and Middle Eastern airlines.

'IRAN'S RETALIATORY ATTACK ON ISRAEL EXPECTED'

Meanwhile, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on Monday, April 1, killing 7 soldiers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, including 2 generals.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated the following day that Israel's airstrike targeting the Iranian Consulate would not go "unanswered."

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, "The Israeli regime will be punished and will receive the necessary response."

Yahya Rahim Safavi, a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, also stated, "The attack on our consulate and the killing of military advisors who were legally present in Syria is a violation of international law. None of Israel's embassies are safe anymore."
