Sustainable tourism is on the rise: Key factors that will shape the future of vacations
Travelers are now considering the environment, local economy, and climate risks just as much as comfort when choosing their routes.
Tourism success has long been measured by visitor numbers and revenue. However, issues such as overtourism, pressure on water resources, loss of biodiversity, and damage to cultural heritage are leading to a reassessment of this approach.
Sustainable tourism stands out as a concept that addresses environmental, economic, and sociocultural impacts together. Making energy and water usage more efficient, reducing waste, and protecting natural life are among the fundamental elements of this approach.
According to Booking.com's 2025 Sustainability Report, 85 percent of 32,500 travelers across 35 countries find more sustainable vacation options important or very important. 74 percent of participants state that they take the risk of extreme weather events into account when planning their vacations.
