Virgin unveils Channel trains to rival Eurostar between London and European cities

Virgin has shared the first images of its new Channel trains, which aim to connect London to major European cities. According to the company's plan, the high-speed trains, featuring a black-and-red design, will directly compete with Eurostar starting in 2030.

Virgin intends to operate 20 round trips per day between London and Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The company states that these routes will add approximately 7.5 million seats of capacity annually.

As part of the plan, an agreement has been signed with French rail manufacturer Alstom for 12 new high-speed trains. The trains, which will be capable of reaching speeds of 300 kilometers per hour, are expected to feature interiors specifically designed for cross-Channel travel.

TO RIVAL EUROSTAR

The UK-based Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has also published an agreement signed between Virgin and Eurostar. This paves the way for Virgin trains to be maintained at the Temple Mills International depot in London.

The company plans to highlight not only transport capacity but also the passenger experience in its new train service. Pre-departure areas are intended to be inspired by Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse lounges, while the trains themselves are expected to feature social areas and arrangements for accessibility.

The food and beverage concept will draw on the experience of Virgin Voyages, while the seating layout and common areas will benefit from the expertise of Virgin Hotels. Members of the Virgin Red loyalty program will also be able to earn points on train journeys and use them across different brands under the Virgin umbrella.

Virgin Group CEO Josh Bayliss said regarding the new service, "We will connect London with some of Europe's most important cities and offer passengers a different alternative for travel across the Channel."

Bayliss stated that they want to bring Virgin's approach of "challenging the status quo" to the Channel route, adding that they aim to turn the journey into an experience as exciting as the destination itself.
